After I graduated from VCU in 1997, I went home to the Philippines for the first time since I left when I was 4 years old. My current identity crisis with fitting in as an American became more complicated when I did not know where I stood as an American in the Philippines. I saw family photos for the first time and met many of my relatives for the first time. The series of paintings I started soon after where a document of finding myself through these old photos and who that person was and cold have been if I did stayed in the Philippines. Fabric and collage where the only way I could portray such vagueness of memory and the complex restructuring of my identity as a Filipino Immigrant in America.
